PRONOTAM is a potent loop-diuretic that acts within the kidney to increase urine output (diuresis) and manages fluid retention.
Indication:
For all kinds of edema caused by congestive heart failure (CHF), pulmonary edema, uremia, hyperkalemia, hypertension and certain kidney diseases.
Recommended Dosage and Administration:
For dogs and cats: Give 2.5mg-5mg/kg body weight. The maximun dosage should not be more than 6 tablets at one time or as prescribed by the veterinarian. Please refer to the table below for proper dosing per body weight.
Precaution:
Should not be used in animals that are unable to produce urine (anuric), or those with serious electrolyte imbalances or electrolyte depletion.
Take caution in giving to animals that are dehydrated, have decreased liver function or diabetes mellitus, animals experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, and pregnant and lactating pets.
Side effects:
May cause ototoxicity, hypokalemia and azotemia. May cause gastrointestinal upset, restlessness or weakness and sometimes hematologic changes.
Drug interaction:
May increase the risk of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity when use with aminoglycoside antibiotics (amikacin or gentamicin).
May increase the risk of hypotension and acute renal failure when use with ACE inhinitors (enalapril).
May increase serum digoxin levels, or decrease digoxin excretion.
May increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulceration and hypokalemia in concurrent use with corticosteroid and may alter insulin requirement.
May increase renal loss of bromide, allowing seizure breakthrough.
May cause interaction with amphotericin B, atracurium, turbocurarine, probenecid, salicylates, succinylcholine and theophylline.
